Epitome Historiae Sacrae

This fully immersive Latin course centers on a guided reading of Epitome Historiae Sacrae, the Summary of Sacred History by Abbé Lhomond. Designed for intermediate Latin learners (and potentially for “advanced beginners” with a strong linguistic background), the course combines structured reading with lively discussions in Latin. You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, share insights, and engage with both the text and broader biblical themes.

Depending on the class level, we may also compare Lhomond’s excellent academic Latin with corresponding passages from the Vulgate or Castellion’s Bible, offering a deeper linguistic perspective.

Prerequisites:

  1. At least one full year of Latin (ability to understand simple sentences, basic vocabulary, and regular verb conjugations) or

  2. Having read approximately two-thirds of Familia Romana.

Duration: 12 weeks, 3 hours per week (2 × 1.5-hour sessions)

Schedule: Mondays and Thursdays, 8:00–9:30 PM (Paris time)
